Three new song debuts highlight playlist #194 of the Catholic Playlist Show! Up first in the playlist is the debut of “Faithful” the newest single from Teresa Peterson. Her new EP, also titled “Faithful” is set for release on June 1, 2018 – you can pre-order here now. A couple weeks ago we debuted a new single from Taylor Tripodi (“You Heard My Name“), and now she’s released another track this week called “Awakening“. We play both of these great new songs back to back! Then at the start of the second segment of the show we debut the newest effort from The Vigil Project and Greg&Lizzy, “Fire of Your Love” is a song meant to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. Oh how time runs by. It’s been over 2(!) months since I lasted posted a new show here to the website and I feel terrible about it for a couple of reasons. First, the show is first and foremost a showcase of some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists and if I don’t post a show they miss out on some key exposure to their target audience. Ouch. Second, the show serves a way for Christian music lovers to discover new music and artists to listen to for encouragement and inspiration. When there’s no show, there’s no discovery. Sigh.

I took a few weeks off from producing shows to do something a little more important, like being ordained a permanent deacon in the diocese of Toledo:

It was truly a blessed day and one I will never forget.

The good news about not producing a new show for a few weeks is that this show is stuffed full of new music released during this time. As I mentioned last week, Matt Maher’s new album Echoes is out and it’s crazy good as you might expect. Mikey Needleman and John Finch also have new albums, and Shaun Garrison released a new single too.

Pontifex Letters from the WastelandBut my favorite new release comes from Pontifex, who’s album Letters from the Wasteland, Vol 1 is a tour de force of Catholic hip hop. Fans of this genre of music need to get this music in their ears, and if you have young people in your life give them this music. It may reach them in a way that no other kind of music can. I picked “New Day” to share in the playlist because it has the best sound for Catholic radio, a place where hip hop/rap is never heard. Enjoy!

John Finch just released a new full length album titled “Wildfire”, and we picked the title track to debut in the playlist. E.P.I.C. the Band (“Proclaim”) and Pasquale Talarico (“All Things New”) each debut new singles, and we just discovered “Surrounded by Your Love”, a single by Greg&Lizzy released last year for Catholic Heart Workcamp. This week’s episode of the Catholic Playlist Show continues our recent run of new artists and music making their debuts in the show. Last week was Brother Isaiah in episode #166, Daniel Rolf in episode #164, and sandwiched between was the new album release of Marie Miller in episode #165. This week it’s Rita West joining the Catholic Playlist in epsiode #167 as our new featured artist.

Rita West - ChosenIf you’ve listened to the show for a while you’ve heard her singing before. In April 2016 Rita and John Finch co-wrote and recorded “Heart of Mercy”, a single we’ve played many times over the last year and now Rita has released her own album Chosen, an EP with six original songs. We’ll debut “Victor”, the first track from EP, in the playlist.

Michael James Mette released a new full length album a couple week ago titled “Between the Lines” and you’ll hear his song “Higher” later on in the playlist. Other great songs can be heard from Brother Isaiah, Marie Miller, Matt Faley, John Finch, WAL, Dana Catherine, and others.

It’s the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother and to mark the occasion we’ve put together a special playlist this week featuring music about Mary. The songs about Mary come from Connor Flanagan, Danielle Rose, Kevin Heider, Jesse Manibusan, Fr Kevin McGoldrick, The Thirsting, Matt Faley and Daniel Rolf, a new artist to the playlist.

It figures. I play up a special episode featuring all ‘super upbeat’ songs, which proved really popular, and then I don’t post a new show for nearly 2 months. From upbeat to silence for weeks…how ironic.

New shows have been produced nearly every week since the upbeat show, and I’ll post some explanation as to why the posts have been delayed soon, but until then enjoy this catch up post featuring 4 shows:

After releasing an “upbeat” theme show featuring all high energy songs, this week we take things a little slower, but only a little. Some of the music in the playlist includes “Coming Home” by Joe Zambon, “Even The Winter” by Audrey Assad, “Even In This” from Josh Blakesley and “Innocent” by Francis Cabildo. Other artists you’ll hear include Out of Darkness, Alob, Kara Klein, Tori Harris, Dave Moore and others.

The process of selecting music for each playlist sometimes leads us to find songs on albums that we didn’t notice before. That’s the case this week as we realized that “Curls” from Katy Blythe’s debut EP ‘NEW’ was a really good song. Same goes for “All I Am Is Yours” by Benjamin Jude and “Lead Me To You” by John Trabbic. One of great things about a show like the Catholic Playlist is that it features a diverse variety of music genres, from pop to rock to folk to country to even a little hip hop. A distinctly country sound can be found in the second segment of this week’s Catholic Playlist Show. That’s no surprise with songs from Matt Faley and Kyle Sinkule, but Ben Walther will surprise you with “To One”.
