Catholic Playlist #100

Catholic Playlist #100It’s our 100th episode! It’s been a joy to produce and host the Catholic Playlist from the beginning, and this week for our 100th playlist we take a look back and celebrate some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists that we’ve discovered and enjoyed along the way. We start the playlist with some of the most familiar names in the industry and then transition to some of our favorite new artists that we’ve all come to enjoy – Tori Harris, Connor Flanagan, PJ Anderson, Matt Faley, Alverlis, Katy Blythe, Dante Schmitz, and Taylor Tripodi. We also celebrate the diversity of the music to be found these days as Catholic hip hop artist Pontifex, aka Fr Claude Burns, makes an appearance in the playlist.

Kevin McGoldrickPlus we are so excited to debut a song from our new featured artist this week, Fr Kevin McGoldrick. His new album “Square Peg, Round Hole” is available for pre-order right now on iTunes and Amazon and we highly recommend it to our listeners! It’s a bluesy and joyful work of art with 10 amazing songs that bring the true, the good and the beautiful right into your ears.

You know, when first started the Catholic Playlist we didn’t know of very many contemporary Catholic artists so those we did know were featured quited often in the early playlists, starting with Matt Maher, who really needs no introduction:

#96 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #96Episode #96 of the Catholic Playlist is here! We like to say that we’re sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music, because music has an undeniable ability to move the soul of the listener. It’s a great and bold mission we take up each week to produce the show, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do this work. This week’s playlist features performances from Alverlis, Audrey Assad, Dave Moore, Matt Faley, Hope and Justin, Donny Todd, and last week’s new featured artist Taylor Tripodi.

#87 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #87The Catholic Playlist show is a showcase of some of the best and very newest music released today by Catholic artists. We have a new featured artist this week – Hope and Justin – and we have cool mix of new and previously unplayed music in the playlist, with songs from Katy Blythe, PJ Anderson, Dante Schmitz, Connor Flanagan, Alverlis, Greg & Lizzy and Of The Tower. We have two songs from Josh Blakesley Band in the playlist too, including the first song “Revive Us” from their latest album “Even In This”.

Hope and JustinOur featured new artist this week is Hope & Justin. Hope and Justin have been playing music together since the first night they met, which was over 10 years ago now, but they are still at it and are joined by what they say are “incredibly talented friends”. They describe their music as homegrown music with lots of soul: everything you loved about 70’s folk and bluegrass with a modern vibe. In 2013 they released their second album titled “Eastern Bound”, and they’ve been rewarded for their hard work and talent, having been selected as “New Folk Finalists” in the Texas Kerrville Folk Festival, semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition (chosen among 20,000 contestants), and awarded “Best Folk Song” in the West Coast Songwriter’s Competition. Hope & Justin are making their Catholic Playlist debut with “St Michael’s VW” from their latest album “Eastern Bound”.

And making a return to our blog posts here for each show, here are links in iTunes of all the songs in this week’s playlist.

#77 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #77New albums from Matt Maher, Chris Bray and WAL (formerly Jacob & Matthew Band) headline episode #77 of the Catholic Playlist show this week.

mm-saintsMatt Maher released his new album titled ‘Saints and Sinners’ on March 17th and it does not disappoint. In fact, it’s hard to pick one or two favorites from the album because the music is so good. We got our hands on the deluxe edition which has a 18 tracks, for over an hour of music goodness and inspiration. We start the playlist with his first radio single ‘Because He Live (Amen)’, and then later in the playlist we picked ‘Everything Is Grace’ for an encore. We think you’ll like it.

chris-bray2On the same day Chris Bray dropped his new album called ‘The Praises of His People Live’. Chris’s latest work reflects his desire to “create a project that enables people to be able to enter into worship with God. The goal of this record was to create an experience that Christ followers could worship along with in their car on their way to work or throughout their day and feel like they are part of a larger church, together worshipping our Creator.” So he assembled a group of worshippers together and captured an evening of praise singing their favorite worship songs: songs like ‘10,000 Reasons’, ‘Our God’, ‘Lord I Need You’, ‘Your Love Never Fails’, ‘Oceans’ and more, including the one in the playlist, ‘Great Are You Lord’.

WALNot only did Jacob & Matthew Band release a new EP on Marth 12th, but they also announced a name change to WAL. According to their new website walmusic.com, after 12 years being known as Jacob and Matthew Band, they have decided through prayer and discernment to rename themselves to WAL. In going this new direction, they said that “God sees all of us, wonderfully made, and wants us to know that we are loved. This love is what propels us to share His love with other people, through music.” The new EP is titled ‘Always and Everywhere’, and in the playlist is the title track, ‘Always & Everywhere’.

Catholic Playlist #72The title single from Josh Blakesley Band’s new album hightlights this edition of the Catholic Playlist show, where we share the joy of the Gospel through the power of music. This week you’ll hear from Teresa Peterson, Alverlis, PJ Anderson, Ike Ndolo, new selections from Matt Faley (“Here I Am”) and Katy Blythe (“I Thirst”), Jaime Thietten and more.

Listen to the full playlist, you just might discover a new favorite song!

#69 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #69Sharing the joy of the Gospel through music by playing the best and some of the very newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists only. This is music you aren’t going to hear anywhere else – not because it’s not good enough, but because no one else is playing it! In fact, until we started this show, we had no idea how many great artists and awesome songs were out there. But if you’ve been listening to this program for some time, you know that there are a LOT of great artists out there and we’re discovering more each week. In fact, this week we’re featuring Shaun Garrison as our new artist – and we already have new artists lined up in the next few weeks and we’re really excited about that. But we are also excited about the playlist we have for you this week featuring PJ Anderson, John Finch, Steve Angrisano, Connor Flanagan, Sarah Kroger, Kevin Heider and more.

#66 Catholic Playlist Show – Advent Special

Catholic Playlist AdventWelcome to our show for the third week of Advent – it’s hard to believe that we are heading to the 3rd Sunday of Advent already! We have a lot more music for Advent and Christmas season coming up for you. Song of the Week – Nov 17, 2014

PJ Anderson RISEOur Catholic Playlist song for the week of November 17, 2014 is “Come Alive” from PJ Anderson. PJ is a Christian singer/songwriter originally from Chicago but now calls Nashville, TN home. He’s been traveling and inspiring youth all around the country at concerts, youth conferences and retreats. Most notably, PJ has led music at Mega-Workshops at the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) as well as leading worship at Catholic Heart Work Camp (CHWC) for the past 6 summers. PJ has a unique ability to connect with his listener through songs that touch those places deep down in your heart where joy and pain reside in harmony. PJ’s current studio album ‘RISE’ is his 4th and he says that “The theme of RISE is rooted in the call of God to rise and love as He loves; to serve as He serves.” Our song of the week ‘Come Alive’ echoes that call to rise and it’s our Catholic Playlist Song of the Week – “Come Alive”, from PJ Anderson:
