#77 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #77New albums from Matt Maher, Chris Bray and WAL (formerly Jacob & Matthew Band) headline episode #77 of the Catholic Playlist show this week.

mm-saintsMatt Maher released his new album titled ‘Saints and Sinners’ on March 17th and it does not disappoint. In fact, it’s hard to pick one or two favorites from the album because the music is so good. We got our hands on the deluxe edition which has a 18 tracks, for over an hour of music goodness and inspiration. We start the playlist with his first radio single ‘Because He Live (Amen)’, and then later in the playlist we picked ‘Everything Is Grace’ for an encore. We think you’ll like it.

chris-bray2On the same day Chris Bray dropped his new album called ‘The Praises of His People Live’. Chris’s latest work reflects his desire to “create a project that enables people to be able to enter into worship with God. The goal of this record was to create an experience that Christ followers could worship along with in their car on their way to work or throughout their day and feel like they are part of a larger church, together worshipping our Creator.” So he assembled a group of worshippers together and captured an evening of praise singing their favorite worship songs: songs like ‘10,000 Reasons’, ‘Our God’, ‘Lord I Need You’, ‘Your Love Never Fails’, ‘Oceans’ and more, including the one in the playlist, ‘Great Are You Lord’.

WALNot only did Jacob & Matthew Band release a new EP on Marth 12th, but they also announced a name change to WAL. According to their new website walmusic.com, after 12 years being known as Jacob and Matthew Band, they have decided through prayer and discernment to rename themselves to WAL. In going this new direction, they said that “God sees all of us, wonderfully made, and wants us to know that we are loved. This love is what propels us to share His love with other people, through music.” The new EP is titled ‘Always and Everywhere’, and in the playlist is the title track, ‘Always & Everywhere’.

Most Popular Show So Far

Catholic Playlist MusicWe don’t have a new show for you this week, but we thought we’d let you know which past episode has proven to be the most popular. It turns out that episode #55, released on September 19, 2014, is our most popular show to date based on the number of podcast plays.

And it is by far the most played episode to date.

So let’s take a closer look at episode #55. The new featured artist that week was Emily Wilson and her song ‘Beautiful and Yours’, along with songs from Chris Bray, Katy Blythe, Out of Darkness, Sarah Hart and Steve Angrisano. But it might be the set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania that sets this episode apart. Up first was Kara Klein, then Greg&Lizzy, followed by Audrey Assad and then wrapping up with Matt Maher. That’s a great lineup, and it made for a great show:

Crowdfunding: Shaun Garrison

Thanks to our friends Lori & Adam Ubowski of Out of Darkness for letting us know about this project. After 15 years of dreaming, Shaun Garrison has decided to step out in faith and pursue his dream of recording his original music. Right now, as this post is published, Shaun needs a little less than $6,000 to meet his goal of $20,000. But there’s only 10 days left and if the goal isn’t reached, there is no money, no project. Watch his Kickstarter video below, check out the project on Kickstarter, and prayerfully consider helping Shaun reach his goal to professionally record and produce his music.

#50 – Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist

It’s the BIG 5-0! Thanks to our great listeners this is the 50th Catholic Playlist show and we think it’s the best one yet. We have brand new music from Brandon Fitts of Delmore and a new song from Marie Miller, as well as songs from Steve Angrisano, Tori Harris, Jackie Francois-Angel, Sarah Kroger, Out of Darkness and more. Our featured new artist this week is Andrea Thomas, a talented singer who has recorded with country music star Collin Raye. You can hear both Andrea and Collin in the second segment.

Did you know that virtually all of the artists we play on the show are independent artists? This means that they not only write and perform their own music, but also have to foot the bill for recording studio time, professional mastering, post-production, and so on. Please support these artists by buying their music, or even better, booking them for a conference, parish event or even an intimate house concert. We have some direct links to music on iTunes here on the website with more being added all the time.

What do you think of the show? What song would you like to hear in the next show? Comment and let us know!

Song of the Week – Aug 4, 2014

Out of Darkness Music

Our song for August 4th 2014 is “Glory to God Forever” from Out of Darkness. Out of Darkness is led by Adam and Lori Ubowski who serve as Directors of Music Ministry at separate neighboring parishes in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Florida. I’m sure that makes things a bit interesting during Advent and Easter! This song comes from their self-titled debut CD released in 2010, which was made possible after their parishes got together and donated the funding needed to make an album. It’s a great story, and here’s a great song, our Catholic Playlist Song of the Week – “Glory to God Forever” from Out of Darkness:
