I have some catching up to do. It’s been well over a month since I last posted a show to the website, even though I still produced 3 Worship and 4(!) Playlist shows that have aired on radio. For those interested I’ll post an explanation of what’s been going later. But for now let’s get to the Worship shows!

Worship shows #85 and #86 begin our series of Lent themed programs, featuring music appropriate for Lent. Not every selection fits into the Lenten category, but we put as many as we could into each episode to avoid duplication in subsequent weeks. Catholic Playlist Worship for Advent & Christmas

Music for the Complete Season of Advent

We’ve arrived to the end of Advent and the Virgin Birth is imminent. We wait together and sing our praise and wonder for the Child to be born.

Like everyone else, I’m crunched for time when we reach Advent and the end of the calendar year. So much to do and try to wrap up in time to relax once Christmas arrives. For me, this includes getting web postings done for the latest Catholic Playlist shows. Which is a great disservice to you, our faithful listeners, for you get to miss out on music specially written and composed for this season of preparation. We’re so sorry about this and resolve to be better next year.

We’re also pleased to include music from two new releases for 2016. Jaime Thietten just released a new Christmas album titled The Joy of Christmas, and we’re pleased to include “O Come O Come Emmanuel” in playlist #80, which is just 1 of 17 songs. This album is well worth a listen and belongs in your collection of music.

This album is peaceful and relaxing to listen to, thanks to a unique instrument called the duduk, which creates a rich, haunting sound. Don’t miss her performance of “O Come O Come Emmanuel” in playlist #78.

S2:E30 Catholic Playlist Worship #72

The Priests, Ed Bolduc and the Cambridge Singers headline this episode of the Catholic Playlist Worship show. “Lord of the Dance” is from The Priests’ latest album “Alleluia” and the Cambridge Singers perform a beautiful arrangement of “Veni, Creator Spiritus”. Ed Bolduc offers us the familiar tune of “If Today”, one of our favorite songs used for a responsorial psalm. S2:E25 Catholic Playlist Worship #68

To commemorate the recent canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, we lead off with two tracks that relate to her life. First, it’s “Prayer of St Francis” from the soundtrack of the movie The Letters, based on her life, followed by “I Thirst” from Annie Karto. Mother Teresa said that those words, “I thirst”, written in their chapel and taken from Jesus’s words from the cross on Good Friday, were a constant reminder of the purpose of the Missionaries of Charity. S2:E20 Catholic Playlist Worship #63

New artists and music is what the Catholic Playlist is all about. This hasn’t always been true however for the Catholic Playlist Worship version of the show. After 62 episodes of the show, we don’t see the same kind of energy being put into traditional, sacred and classical music. Maybe we aren’t trying as hard, but it seems true to us. That’s probably why the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles from the De Montfort Music label took the classical music world by storm the last couple of years.

This week we find a new artist to share with you from the sacred music side. Lorraine Hess joins the Worship show this week with “Soul of Christ”, a new arrangement of the Anima Christi prayer. Jack Cassidy smoothly sings “Brian’s Hymn (When I Turn to You)” and the sisters of the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles beautifully offer “Lauda Sion”.
