#76 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #76Catholic Playlist show #76 comes to you near the midpoint of Lent 2015 and let it be a little bit of encouragement and sunshine during this penitential season.

Now that we’ve been doing this show for nearly 2 years, we have built up a nice sized library of music that keeps expanding every week as new artists come along (Matt Faley, Teresa Peterson, Shaun Garrison, Dave Moore) and new albums are released (Greg & Lizzy, Mikey Needleman, and Matt Maher on 3/17). So we packed the playlist tight this week chock full of great music and a couple of new songs. Included in Playlist #76 are Alverlis, Katy Blythe, Tori Harris, Ike Ndolo, Greg & Lizzy, Matt Faley, Josh Blakesley and others. And be sure to check out the first track from Kevin Heider called St Brigid’s Fire. Even though it’s written about St Brigid, it makes for a great Irish drinking song fit of St Patrick’s day. Enjoy!

#18 – Catholic Playlist Worship

Catholic Playlist Worship #18Continuing to share the joy of the Gospel through the power of music, today we have a playlist put together that I think you’re really going to like as we looked to fill the playlist with Lenten music.

So, how is your Lent going? We pray and hope that it is your best Lent ever!

To that end we have some familiar selections from the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, Jon Sarta, the WLP Choir, the Choir of St Ignatius Loyola, James Rosenbloom and more. The WLP Choir gets things started with These Forty Days of Lent:

#75 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist Show #75We have another great lineup for you this week, with music from Andrea Thomas, Sarah Hart, Tom Booth, Francis Cabildo and others, including Matt Maher who is arguably the biggest name in Catholic Christian contemporary music. I want you all to be aware that on January 23rd he used his Facebook page to announce a new studio album. In that little post, he simply wrote: “Excited to announce a new studio album “Saint and Sinners” releasing March 17th”. This will be his 8th album and is looking to extend his streak of 4 straight top 10 finishes on the Christian charts. A good song for Lent from Matt starts playlist show #75 – “Lay It Down”:

#74 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #74This week on the Catholic Playlist we have new music from Matt Faley, Jackie Bissin, and Michelle Romary, plus Dave Moore is our featured new artist in this edition of the Catholic Playlist show. As you know, we play some of the best and the newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists. We call it sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music.

We have a lot of new music this week – with a new selection from Matt Faley, an exclusive pre-release track from Jackie Bissin, a song from Chris Bray we haven’t played before, plus we’re very excited to feature Dave Moore this week – we think you’ll really like his music. And in case you missed Greg&Lizzy‘s debut of the first single ‘Cathedral’ last week from their new album Now That I Have Love, don’t worry because that’s where we start the playlist!

Featured New Artist: Dave Moore

Dave Moore

The Catholic Playlist new featured artist this week is Dave Moore. Dave is a Christian Singer-Songwriter who’s passion and heart for God can be seen throughout all his life and music. In his website bio at davemooremusic.com, he says “I feel that my heart is to unite the people of God by leading them into these moments of intense and deep prayer, where the conflicts of life are forgotten and through song we can just focus on the vertical relationship, God and Man.”

Since becoming a solo artist, he says that he eventually “… realized that the greatest love song I could write wouldn’t necessarily be written for someone on earth, but rather for God. I believe that makes Him smile and that’s in a way what I strive for in my relationship with God… to do things and write things that would “make Him smile…” We hope his music makes you smile too.

For his Catholic Playlist debut, we play ‘Flood Our Hearts’ from the album “The Return”. Dave’s take on the song:

I think this song is relevant as we are dealing with so many crazy political views in this modern day and even amidst people in the church there is so much division… this song basically invokes the Spirit of God to overflow and “Flood our Hearts” bringing us new found Joy, Peace, Love and Charity. It uses phrases like “Give us a pure heart in a world of distractions” or “bind us together when opinion divides us” and “if we turn fix our eyes on you.”

Crowdfunding: Taylor Tripodi

Taylor Tripodi

Meet Taylor Tripodi. Someone liked her Facebook page the other night and it showed up in my news feed so I checked it out. And I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Taylor is a talented singer from Cleveland, OH and a current student at Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH who just started a Kickstarter campaign to produce her debut EP titled “Be Glorified”. She has a modest goal of $5,000 by March 12th and is nearly halfway there as of the time of this post. Check out her Kickstarter campaign and website at taylortripodi.com and if you can, please support her campaign. If she’s successful we hope to debut her music on the show!

Here’s a quote from her website:

The Lord has revealed to me in so many ways His unconditional love through all of my failings and beautiful life experiences. THAT is what I love to write about. I love to write about Him. He has always been there for me at every moment, even when I have turned away from Him. I have realized that to me, truly He is the only one worth writing and singing about. He deserves more than any song I could ever write for Him or about Him, but if I can give Him any praise and show people through my music the one who loves them more than anything else and lead them into a deeper relationship with Him, than I will have fulfilled all my dreams that I have for my music.

Song of the Week – Feb 16, 2015

Matt Faley

The Catholic Playlist Song of the Week for February 16, 2015 is “Here I Am” from Matt Faley. Matt works full-time in Catholic young adult ministry and uses this platform to share the gifts and talents he has been given to re-invigorate the Gospel for college students and young adults. He uses the art, beauty and transformative power of music and songwriting to speak to the heart of the Gospel, and his honest reflections do not just scratch the surface, but speak deeply to the heart of every person. And the song ‘Here I Am’ does just that, digging down into the core of what it means to be human, down on our knees as ‘weak and wounded’ people. It’s our Catholic Playlist Song of the Week from Matt Faley – ‘Here I Am’:

Most Popular Show So Far

Catholic Playlist MusicWe don’t have a new show for you this week, but we thought we’d let you know which past episode has proven to be the most popular. It turns out that episode #55, released on September 19, 2014, is our most popular show to date based on the number of podcast plays.

And it is by far the most played episode to date.

So let’s take a closer look at episode #55. The new featured artist that week was Emily Wilson and her song ‘Beautiful and Yours’, along with songs from Chris Bray, Katy Blythe, Out of Darkness, Sarah Hart and Steve Angrisano. But it might be the set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania that sets this episode apart. Up first was Kara Klein, then Greg&Lizzy, followed by Audrey Assad and then wrapping up with Matt Maher. That’s a great lineup, and it made for a great show:
