This week on the Catholic Playlist show we are featuring a new single from Alverlis. Alverlis Pena is a Catholic worship leader and songwriter born and raised in New York City. She picked up a guitar after she had a personal encounter with the Lord in her teenage years and has not stopped making music ever since.
Alverlis ministers at various youth events, concerts, retreats and liturgical services throughout the country. She serves as a worship leader in New Name, a Catholic Playlist favorite, as well as collaborating in Youth2000 New York and Corazon Puro. She also collaborates in local religious communities, such as the Sisters of Life, where she serves as Co-worker, helping troubled pregnant women with practical needs. She routinely leads worship during the Eucharistic adoration portion of Catholic Underground NYC alongside the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Before answering God’s call to full time ministry, Alverlis worked as a Montesorri-trained teacher and assistant teacher in NYC dept of Education for over 10 years. Alverlis co-wrote and interpreted the song “Live to Worship” which was New Name’s first single. She hopes her upcoming album leads the hearts of both believers and non-believers into a place of complete surrender and worship
Her new single ‘Speak’ is the first release of Alverlis’ solo project. It was written by Alverlis and arranged and produced by Eli Menezes. It is rich in melody and raw acoustic guitars, and the lyrics show an everyday realistic conversation with the Lord. What have we to offer to Him to gave His all for us? The answer is that we can offer everything. We can love, practice compassion, do good. We can let our actions speak His love in this world in dire need of Christ.
