Catholic Playlist Shows 190-193

Oh how time runs by. It’s been over 2(!) months since I lasted posted a new show here to the website and I feel terrible about it for a couple of reasons. First, the show is first and foremost a showcase of some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists and if I don’t post a show they miss out on some key exposure to their target audience. Ouch. Second, the show serves a way for Christian music lovers to discover new music and artists to listen to for encouragement and inspiration. When there’s no show, there’s no discovery. Sigh.

First, it’s “Wounded Healer” from Audrey Assad’s new album “Evergreen”. PJ Anderson teams with Sarah Hart on the single “Beloved, Arise” from her new album “Sacrament”. Then there’s the title track from Luke Spehar’s “The Pilgrim” and “Saved by Grace” from EPIC the Band’s “Creation – Wave I” EP, which features a riff from Connor Flanagan. Enjoy!

The Catholic Playlist is Back!

Hey everybody, we’re still here! The Catholic Playlist show finally returns for the first playlist of 2018. It’s a late start to Season 5 to be sure but we’re still sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music! We’re winding up the Advent season with this week’s show, which will be the last show for 2017. We’re going to take a break for Christmas and New Years, and then we’ll be back in 2018 with Season 5 of the Catholic Playlist sharing more of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists. Lots of great new music coming in 2018, but until then let’s enjoy some Advent and Christmas music, including songs from Matt Maher, Josh Blakesley, Jaime Thietten, The Vigil Project, and leading off is a soon to be released single from Aly Aleigha – “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent”

I took a few weeks off from producing shows to do something a little more important, like being ordained a permanent deacon in the diocese of Toledo:

It was truly a blessed day and one I will never forget.

The good news about not producing a new show for a few weeks is that this show is stuffed full of new music released during this time. As I mentioned last week, Matt Maher’s new album Echoes is out and it’s crazy good as you might expect. Mikey Needleman and John Finch also have new albums, and Shaun Garrison released a new single too.

Pontifex Letters from the WastelandBut my favorite new release comes from Pontifex, who’s album Letters from the Wasteland, Vol 1 is a tour de force of Catholic hip hop. Fans of this genre of music need to get this music in their ears, and if you have young people in your life give them this music. It may reach them in a way that no other kind of music can. I picked “New Day” to share in the playlist because it has the best sound for Catholic radio, a place where hip hop/rap is never heard. Enjoy!

It’s only fitting to follow up last week’s ladies only playlist with a guys only playlist this week. That’s exactly what we’ve done as we selected 13 of the most popular male contemporary Christian music artists of the last year. And like the ladies, we had to keep a few guys on the sidelines, notably Matt Faley, Adam Bitter, Brother Isaiah, Cody Roth, Dave Moore, Fr Rob Galea, Joe Zambon and more. Now if you listen to the entire playlist, you might notice that Josh Blakesley isn’t heard. Why? It’s because they are a band, a group, and in fact they are referred to as the Josh Blakesley Band. Dante Schmitz Of The HillsHeadlining this week’s episode of the Catholic Playlist is Dante Schmitz and the release of his new album “Of The Hills”. Available in June 2017, “Of The Hills” is an 8 song EP of original music and arrangements that current fans of his music will thoroughly enjoy. This well produced and great sounding album gave us several songs to choose from, including “Our Father”, “Come as You Are” and “Miracles”. Returning this week is Matt Maher with his new single “Your Love Defends Me”, as does John Finch with “Walk by Faith.” Connor Flanagan teams with a boyhood idol of his in Shonlock to bring us “Waterfall”, and Jackie Bissin covers Hillsong United’s “Oceans” too.
