From Upbeat to Silence for Weeks...

Catholic Playlist Show

It figures. I play up a special episode featuring all ‘super upbeat’ songs, which proved really popular, and then I don’t post a new show for nearly 2 months. From upbeat to silence for weeks…how ironic.

New shows have been produced nearly every week since the upbeat show, and I’ll post some explanation as to why the posts have been delayed soon, but until then enjoy this catch up post featuring 4 shows:

#155
After releasing an “upbeat” theme show featuring all high energy songs, this week we take things a little slower, but only a little. Some of the music in the playlist includes “Coming Home” by Joe Zambon, “Even The Winter” by Audrey Assad, “Even In This” from Josh Blakesley and “Innocent” by Francis Cabildo. Other artists you’ll hear include Out of Darkness, Alob, Kara Klein, Tori Harris, Dave Moore and others.

#156
The process of selecting music for each playlist sometimes leads us to find songs on albums that we didn’t notice before. That’s the case this week as we realized that “Curls” from Katy Blythe’s debut EP ‘NEW’ was a really good song. Same goes for “All I Am Is Yours” by Benjamin Jude and “Lead Me To You” by John Trabbic. Catch these tracks plus more from NOVUM, Mikey Needleman, Taylor Tripodi, Jaime Thietten, Cooper Ray and more.

#157
Lent is underway in 2017 and while we won’t be playing songs with alleluia in the title or in the lyrics (but we might miss one here or there — please forgive!), we will keep playing the best and newest contemporary Christian music by Catholic artists. This week we have title track Undone from Danielle Noonan’s new EP, as well as songs from Alverlis, Kyle Sinkule, Dan Francis, Greg&Lizzy, Marie Miller and more.

#158
The latest release from Chris Bray highlights this episode of the Catholic Playlist show. We debut 2 songs from Chris’ album “Joy In My Heart” in the playlist – “King In His Kingdom” and “In The Name”, and surround them with great tracks from Stefania Elsmore, Dana Catherine, Ike Ndolo, Matt Maher and many more.

Song List
New songs heard in these 4 shows are found below. Otherwise, you can find links to the songs and artists in these show in previous episodes here on the website.

Cody Roth – “Colors Left Unseen” Amazon iTunes
EPIC The Band – “Agape” Amazon iTunes
Danielle Noonan – “Undone” Amazon iTunes
Chris Bray – “King in His Kingdom”, “In His Name” Amazon iTunes

The Catholic Playlist for Advent and Christmas

The Complete Collection of 2016 Advent & Christmas Shows

Catholic Playlist Advent

As we shared in the previous post, we’re crunched for time when we reach Advent and the end of the calendar year. There is so much to do and try to wrap up in time to relax once Christmas arrives. One of the things moved down the priority list are the web postings for the latest Catholic Playlist shows. We know we’re not treating you well, our faithful listeners, as you get to miss out on some of the latest music specially written and composed for this season of preparation. One of our resolutions for the next season is to be better next year.

Instead of posting each show individually, we’re packaging them up here in one place to make is easy to find and listen to these special shows. All 4 Advent and Christmas episodes of the Catholic Playlist are right here to enjoy. In addition to the many ‘classics’ from your favorite artists we’re pleased to share some of the latest music!

Vigil Project Series 2The first major release is Series #2: Advent + Christmas by the Vigil Project. The new album features seven new songs (and accompanying videos) that invite you to “Keep Watch and Pray” for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. You can hear the first 2 songs they released in playlist #149. Greg&Lizzy are featured in “Prepare Him Room” and John Finch leads us in “Savior of The World”, an upbeat song about the coming of the Messiah. Then in playlist #150, Andrea Thomas leads off the show with “In Need of a Savior”, and John Finch brings us “Silent Night” in playlist #151.

Jaime Thietten Joy of ChristmasNext is Jaime Thietten and her new Christmas album titled The Joy of Christmas. This collection of 17 songs has everything you want in a Christmas season album, and we got the album just in time to play 3 songs in playlist #151. Featuring a full orchestra, the sound is warm, rich and inviting and parallels any release you’d find from the major record labels. You won’t want to miss her duet with Vince Gill in “The First Noel / Angels We Have Heard on High” at the 26:30 mark!

Abigail Winzer RejoiceAbigail Winzer is a young new artist who released her first album titled Rejoice back in October. The album includes seven classic Advent and Christmas songs, and we found listening to it to be peaceful and relaxing. The distinct sound heard throughout the album is thanks to a unique instrument called the duduk, which creates a rich, haunting sound appropriate as we wait in the dark for the coming of the light of the world. Don’t miss her performance of “O Come O Come Emmanuel” in playlist #149!

Oh, and don’t forget that Matt Maher released a new Christmas single too – Glory (Let There Be Peace)!

Hopefully your wait to hear this music of the season was worth it!

Join Us At AbbeyFest!

AbbeyFest

We’re very excited to announce that the Catholic Playlist will be an information vendor at the AbbeyFest this year!

In just three short years, AbbeyFest has grown from a free concert in the St. Norbert Parish gym into a full day outdoor Catholic faith, music and family festival with close to 3,000 people this past September 2015.

Held at Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, PA, the grounds are transformed into a festival atmosphere featuring dozens of Catholic vendors along with food trucks, family and kid-friendly activities, pickup Frisbee, soccer and touch football games and dozens of Archdiocesan, Norbertine, and other order priests hearing confessions throughout the day and evening along with prayer and healing teams.

We’ll be there to meet and greet all of the fans attending the event and also capture photos and videos of the performances of Aly Aleigha, Teresa Peterson and the Josh Blakesley Band!

Three New Songs Make Their Debut

Catholic Playlist 125At the end of nearly every show, I exhort the listeners to sign up to our email list to “get the latest news and happenings in the Catholic music scene.” I’m betting a heavy amount that prior to this show’s existence, virtually no one ever considered the “Catholic music scene” to be a real thing. After all, this phrase implies (1) there are enough people making great music, and (2) there are enough people interested in their music to form a reasonably sized fan base. Right now, this radio show & podcast is doing all it can to attract and grow a fan base for the music. Thank you to every one who listens to this show and has become a fan of this music!

Rebecca Roubion Sleepless NightsAs for the people making great music, there is certainly a lot to get excited about. New albums are coming soon from PJ Anderson, Marie Miller, Connor Flanagan and Lee Roessler. Rebecca Roubion just released her newest album “Sleepless Nights”, John Finch has a new single out with Rita West, and the Vigil Project just released the last song in their series of songs for Lent and Easter. And I’m sure there are many more projects in the works too. It’s a good time to be a fan of the Catholic Playlist!

John Finch Heart of MercyThis week’s playlist features brand new music from Rebecca Roubion, John Finch and Andrea Thomas of the Vigil Project debuting this week, along with performances from Dave Moore, Noelle Garcia, Katy Blythe, last week’s new debut from Rachel Ann & Cassandra Acree plus Josh Blakesley and more.
