Catholic Playlist Worship – #35

Catholic Playlist WorshipEpisode #35 of the Catholic Playlist Worship show offers some selections that we haven’t played in while, like “The Lord’s Prayer” by Jackie Evancho, “Peace Is Flowing Like A River” by Dana, and “Surely the Presence of the Lord Is in This Place” by Dawn Dinome. Catholic Playlist #104Welcome to the show that plays the best and very newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists today – a little show we call the Catholic Playlist. This is great inspirational music that you won’t hear anywhere else, so get ready to discover new music and new artists that you never knew about until right now. Aly AleighaAly Aleigha is a recent graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville and currently works at the University of Minnesota, Duluth Newman Center under Father Mike Schmitz. Aly’s debut EP “Jealous Love” was recorded at the end of her senior year at Franciscan and was released in June 2015. Catholic Playlist Worship – #34

Catholic Playlist WorshipAnother great collection of sacred and traditional music awaits in Playlist #34 of the Catholic Playlist Worship show. You’ll hear great classic hymns such as “Come Thou Found of Every Blessing” by Collin Raye, a piano instrumental interpretation of “How Great Thou Art” from Jon Sarta, and “O Sanctissima” by Beth Nielsen Chapman. Some newer music includes “Taste and See” from Steve Angrisano, “Be Not Afraid” from Kitty Cleveland and “Sacred Silence” by Tom Booth.

Plus we have some Gregorian Chant and songs from Vince Ambrosetti, Dan Schutte, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles.

New Featured Artist: Aly Aleigha

Aly Aleigha

We’re pleased to introduce you to Aly Aleigha, our new featured artist this week in Catholic Playlist show #104. We stumbled across her on Facebook last week and once we sampled the music from her debut EP “Jealous Love” we knew we had to share it with you!

A recent graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Aly began leading worship at Mass and other Church events which then progressed into performing on stage. It wasn’t until her senior year at Franciscan things started falling into place for her to consider recording her songs. She remembers praying, “Okay, God, if you really want me to make an EP, I’ll do it–but if it ever becomes about me, take it away. And also, I need a banjo.” After a long search she discovered her answer had been living next to her for the entire year without knowing it!

Aly currently works at the University of Minnesota, Duluth Newman Center under Father Mike Schmitz, and in her free time travels to various parts of the country to lead music and give talks at different events. She’ll be very busy next summer, traveling to the Holy Land on a pilgrimage with Jeff Cavins as the worship lead, and then leading worship and teaching Theology of the Body on a month-long cruise leading up to World Youth Day.

Catholic Playlist #103

Catholic Playlist #103You already know our tag line of “sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music”, which means playing the best and some of the very newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists only.

But this week we really demonstrate that commitment! For the newest music, we have a song from Andrea Thomas’ brand new album “Will You Go”, a new single from Audrey Assad, another song from Fr Kevin McGoldrick’s album that’s coming out soon, and we’ll play “Coming Home” featuring Tori Harris again. As for the best in music, we have Matt Maher who just won 2 Dove awards, the most prestigious awards in Christian music. One was for Songwriter of the Year and the other for Worship Song of the Year, “Because He Lives”.

Other great artists in the playlist include Dee Simone, Collin Raye, Dante Schmitz, Matt Faley and more.

Catholic Playlist #102

Catholic Playlist #102Discovering new music is one of our favorite things about doing the Catholic Playlist, and this week doesn’t disappoint! We are always on the look out for new music and artists for the show, and this week we found Danielle Noonan, making her debut with “There Is No One Like You” from her album ‘The Awaken Project’.

In addition to searching out new music, we keep watch over what’s happening in the Catholic music scene and there’s a lot going on right now. For example Lee Roessler, who makes an appearance in the playlist this week, is working on a new album, as is Sarah Hart, Connor Flanagan and Rebecca Roubion. And Tori Harris has co-written and is featured in a new single released this week called “Coming Home”. Inspired by the coming Year of Mercy, the song is about the prodigal son and God’s forgiveness and judging by the comments we’ve read, it’s a hit. Check out the video of the song that we posted earlier too.

The rest of the playlist features performances from Out of Darkness, John Finch, Greg & Lizzy, Chris Bray, Dave Moore, Ben Walther, Hope and Justin (who we just learned is set to release their new album “Love & War” in 2016) and Army of Me. Enjoy!

Catholic Playlist #101

Catholic Playlist #100September 29 happened to be National Coffee Day. ‘Coffee’ also happens to be the first radio single from Fr Kevin McGoldrick’s new albulm ‘Square Peg, Round Hole’ (pre-order here or here). Inspired by these facts, we decided to open this week’s playlist episode with a set of songs that set the tone for a great day. So if you’ve been looking for some ‘wake up’ morning music to get you inspired to take on the day, pay close attention to our first segment of the show.

Performers in this week’s playlist include Sarah Kroger, Kevin Heider, Rebecca Roubion, Steve Angrisano, Donny Todd, and Kara Klein. Catholic Playlist #100It’s our 100th episode! It’s been a joy to produce and host the Catholic Playlist from the beginning, and this week for our 100th playlist we take a look back and celebrate some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists that we’ve discovered and enjoyed along the way. We start the playlist with some of the most familiar names in the industry and then transition to some of our favorite new artists that we’ve all come to enjoy – Tori Harris, Connor Flanagan, PJ Anderson, Matt Faley, Alverlis, Katy Blythe, Dante Schmitz, and Taylor Tripodi. We also celebrate the diversity of the music to be found these days as Catholic hip hop artist Pontifex, aka Fr Claude Burns, makes an appearance in the playlist.

#99 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #99Just 1 more week until episode #100! But right now it’s playlist #99 for us this week as we continue to share the joy of the Gospel through the power of music. This week we feature performances from Adam Bitter, Ceili Rain, Luke Spehar, Sarah Hart, The Thirsting and others. The show starts with a set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival coming up on Saturday, September 19th at the Daylesford Abbey near Philadelphia. It’s a great music event! Catholic Playlist Worship #28We invite you to listen in this week to playlist #28 of traditional and sacred music in the Catholic Playlist Worship show as we continue to expand the number of artists and songs. First, we’ve never had more than 2 Gregorian chants in a playlist but this week we have 3 – The Monks of Norcia, the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos, and Gloria Die Cantores Schola. Next, we have Kevin Heider performing “Sing of Mary” from The Glory Collective EP “Shine” and Michelle Romary performing “Lady of Knock” from her album “Songs of Comfort and Devotion”.
