Catholic Playlist Worship for Advent & Christmas

Music for the Complete Season of Advent

smaller-advent-scripture

We’ve arrived to the end of Advent and the Virgin Birth is imminent. We wait together and sing our praise and wonder for the Child to be born.

Like everyone else, I’m crunched for time when we reach Advent and the end of the calendar year. So much to do and try to wrap up in time to relax once Christmas arrives. For me, this includes getting web postings done for the latest Catholic Playlist shows. Which is a great disservice to you, our faithful listeners, for you get to miss out on music specially written and composed for this season of preparation. We’re so sorry about this and resolve to be better next year.

Jaime Thietten Joy of ChristmasWe play many of the ‘classics’ from your favorite artists – Jackie Evancho, The Priests, Kitty Cleveland, L’Angelus, St Paul’s Choir School, and Adrienne Price. Jaime Thietten just released a new Christmas album titled The Joy of Christmas, and we’re pleased to include “O Come O Come Emmanuel” in playlist #80, which is just 1 of 17 songs. This album is well worth a listen and belongs in your collection of music.

abigail-winzer-rejoiceNew artist Abigail Winzer released her first album Rejoice, which includes seven classic songs. This album is peaceful and relaxing to listen to, thanks to a unique instrument called the duduk, which creates a rich, haunting sound. Hopefully your wait to hear this sacred music for the season was worth it!

More Great Music for Lent

Catholic Playlist Worship #46The season of Lent goes on and this week’s Catholic Playlist Worship episode is the next playlist of Lent themed music for your enjoyment. Jon Sarta offers instrumental versions of “Hosea” and “Jesus, Remember Me”, and we have 2 selections from Lent at Ephesus by the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles – “Jesus, My Love” and “O Sacred Head Surrounded”.

We recently learned of the group Voces8 and we feature their performance of “Ubi Caritas”. For a little change of pace we have a few non-chorale songs in the playlist, namely Tom Booth with “Sacred Silence” and Chris Muglia’s “I Need a Savior”. From top to bottom, this is one of our best Lent themed playlists yet.

Enjoy!
