S2:E15 Catholic Playlist Worship #57

Some of your favorite Catholic sacred and traditional music can be heard in this episode of Catholic Playlist Worship. A soaring performance of “It Is Well With My Soul” by Audrey Assad is a definite hightlight, as is “I Am the Bread Of Life” by Collin Raye. Fr Stan Fortuna gives a fine performance of “Gift of Finest Wheat” and Dan Schutte offers up “Here I Am, Lord” on the 30th anniversary of the original recording.

It's Mary's Month!

Catholic Playlist #126Like I said in last week’s post for Catholic Playlist Worship #55, the month of May is one of my favorite months. First, it means the season of spring is now getting into full swing (finally) here in Ohio, the end of the school year is now just days away, it’s my birthday month and last but certainly not least, it’s the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother! To mark this occasion, I’ve put together a special playlist this week featuring 8 songs about Mary. I couldn’t quite fill the entire playlist with Marian songs, but I think you’ll still enjoy the distinct theme of the playlist.

Our songs about Mary come from Connor Flanagan, Danielle Rose, Kevin Heider, Jesse Manibusan, Fr Kevin McGoldrick, The Thirsting and one of my new favorites is Matt Faley’s take on a real classic – “Ave Maria”.

Performers in the playlist include Tori Harris, Collin Raye, Kitty Cleveland, Edwin Fawcett, Voces8, L’Angelus and more.

The Letters SoundtrackThis week we lead off the playlist with a composition from the official movie soundtrack of “The Letters”, a movie that explores the life of Mother Teresa through letters she wrote to her longtime friend and spiritual advisor, Father Celeste van Exem over a nearly 50-year period. With her canonization coming up in September, we thought it was appropriate to share this music with you. This first selection from the soundtrack is titled “Prayer of St Francis”.

Three New Songs Make Their Debut

Catholic Playlist 125At the end of nearly every show, I exhort the listeners to sign up to our email list to “get the latest news and happenings in the Catholic music scene.” I’m betting a heavy amount that prior to this show’s existence, virtually no one ever considered the “Catholic music scene” to be a real thing. After all, this phrase implies (1) there are enough people making great music, and (2) there are enough people interested in their music to form a reasonably sized fan base. Right now, this radio show & podcast is doing all it can to attract and grow a fan base for the music. Thank you to every one who listens to this show and has become a fan of this music!

Rebecca Roubion Sleepless NightsAs for the people making great music, there is certainly a lot to get excited about. New albums are coming soon from PJ Anderson, Marie Miller, Connor Flanagan and Lee Roessler. Rebecca Roubion just released her newest album “Sleepless Nights”, John Finch has a new single out with Rita West, and the Vigil Project just released the last song in their series of songs for Lent and Easter. And I’m sure there are many more projects in the works too. It’s a good time to be a fan of the Catholic Playlist!
