Catholic Playlist #101

Catholic Playlist #100September 29 happened to be National Coffee Day. ‘Coffee’ also happens to be the first radio single from Fr Kevin McGoldrick’s new albulm ‘Square Peg, Round Hole’ (pre-order here or here). Inspired by these facts, we decided to open this week’s playlist episode with a set of songs that set the tone for a great day. So if you’ve been looking for some ‘wake up’ morning music to get you inspired to take on the day, pay close attention to our first segment of the show.

We like to say that we’re sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music, because music has an undeniable ability to move the soul of the listener. And music that glorifies God and stirs the soul, is truly an instrument to bring people to the Lord and to build unity. It’s a great and bold mission we take up each week to produce the show, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do this work. The beauty of this show is that we might play a great song from an artist you never heard anywhere else. We love finding new music and sharing it with you, and this week is no exception. We’ve got new songs from Greg & Lizzy and Matt Faley in the playlist this week, plus music from Collin Raye, Dave Moore, Donny Todd, Josh Blakesley, and Kara Klein. Cooper Ray leads off the playlist with “Every Day I Will Sing” and Alanna Boudreau finishes the playlist with “Satie Song”.

#84 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #84The discovery and sharing of new music is both rewarding and fun. Who doesn’t like to tell their friends to listen to something that we like and are pretty sure they are going to like too? The fact that we get to discover and share new music with you through this show is nothing short of amazing.

So it’s with great anticipation that in this week’s show we’re debuting a brand new song from Fr Pontifex and his new album ‘The Invincibles’. The playlist also has music from Dee Simone, Audrey Assad, Ike Ndolo, Matt Faley, Kara Klein, Sarah Hart and a host of other great artists, including Dave Moore who gets the show started with “Swept Away”.

The second segment of the show is where you’ll find Fr Pontifex’s new song. Many of you may be asking – Who is “Fr Pontifex”? Well, Fr Pontifex is a priest in the diocese of Evansville, Indiana and he’s quite a talented Catholic hip hop artist who has now recorded 3 full length albums. You might be wondering why we’d play hip hop or ‘rap’ music on the Catholic Playlist, even if it is from a Catholic priest. The answer is that first this music is quite good, but second that this show is about discovering new music that carries the Catholic message – a message in a genre that’s attractive to our youth right now, and you need to know about it to be able to share it with others who might really enjoy it.

Pontifex-InvinciblesThe song we’ll be debuting is called “Ocean” and it’s the lead the single off of his new album “The Invincibles”. The song is about being called by God to the great adventure. One of the lines in the song – “Safer in your waters than these shores is what you promise” – encapsulates the meaning of this piece. God may call us to the deep waters, to the unknown and to place that is not comfortable but with that he promises his presence and grace. He walks with us and directs our steps.

Catholic Playlist #79Brand new music headlines this episode of the Catholic Playlist as John Finch releases a new EP last week and new featured artist Dee Simone drops her debut EP Lovesick. That and more great music on the Catholic Playlist show, where we share the joy of the Gospel through music – Happy Easter everyone! Again we’ll be playing the best and the very newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists.

Catholic artists like Kara Klein, Marie Miller, Ben Walther, Sarah Hart, NOVUM, L’Angelus and others. But before we start the playlist, we need to welcome the listeners of 2 radio stations now carrying the Catholic Playlist show, first we welcome to the listeners of the Living Bread Radio Network in Northeast Ohio, the Canton and Youngstown areas specifically, and those listening to KCRD 98.3FM in the Dubuque, Iowa area – glad to have you aboard.

This is our first show since Easter Sunday, so it’s quite appropriate that we lead off this week’s playlist with “Sing Alleluia” from Cooper Ray.

Catholic Playlist Show #75We have another great lineup for you this week, with music from Andrea Thomas, Sarah Hart, Tom Booth, Francis Cabildo and others, including Matt Maher who is arguably the biggest name in Catholic Christian contemporary music. I want you all to be aware that on January 23rd he used his Facebook page to announce a new studio album. In that little post, he simply wrote: “Excited to announce a new studio album “Saint and Sinners” releasing March 17th”. This will be his 8th album and is looking to extend his streak of 4 straight top 10 finishes on the Christian charts. A good song for Lent from Matt starts playlist show #75 – “Lay It Down”:

Most Popular Show So Far

Catholic Playlist MusicWe don’t have a new show for you this week, but we thought we’d let you know which past episode has proven to be the most popular. It turns out that episode #55, released on September 19, 2014, is our most popular show to date based on the number of podcast plays.

And it is by far the most played episode to date.

So let’s take a closer look at episode #55. The new featured artist that week was Emily Wilson and her song ‘Beautiful and Yours’, along with songs from Chris Bray, Katy Blythe, Out of Darkness, Sarah Hart and Steve Angrisano. But it might be the set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania that sets this episode apart. Up first was Kara Klein, then Greg&Lizzy, followed by Audrey Assad and then wrapping up with Matt Maher. That’s a great lineup, and it made for a great show:

Catholic Playlist #70And welcome everyone to another Catholic Playlist show, where we share the joy of the Gospel through the power of music. How? By finding and playing the best and some of the very newest contemporary Christian music, but from Catholic artists only. I’m not kidding when I say that we play the very newest music, because this week we’re pleased to debut the first single from Mikey Needleman’s latest album called ‘Your Ways’. We’ll be featuring that in the second segment of the show. We will also be playing a special song from Danielle Rose called ‘Little Flower’ from her Culture of Life album as we wrap up Respect for Life week and the annual March for Life in Washington DC. The playlist also features a great lineup of other performers – like Kara Klein, Andrea Thomas, Delmore, Joe Zambon, Luke Spehar, Jackie Bissin and Audrey Assad.
