Catholic Playlist #90

Welcome everyone to another Catholic Playlist show, where we play the best and the newest contemporary Christian music – music exclusively from Catholic artists. The beauty of this show is that we might play a great song from an artist you never heard anywhere else. We love finding new music and sharing it with you, and this week is no exception. We’ve got new songs from Greg & Lizzy and Matt Faley in the playlist this week, plus music from Collin Raye, Dave Moore, Donny Todd, Josh Blakesley, and Kara Klein. Cooper Ray leads off the playlist with “Every Day I Will Sing” and Alanna Boudreau finishes the playlist with “Satie Song”.

Here’s the iTunes playlist for those interested in adding some songs or albums to their personal collection:

#87 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #87The Catholic Playlist show is a showcase of some of the best and very newest music released today by Catholic artists. We have a new featured artist this week – Hope and Justin – and we have cool mix of new and previously unplayed music in the playlist, with songs from Katy Blythe, PJ Anderson, Dante Schmitz, Connor Flanagan, Alverlis, Greg & Lizzy and Of The Tower. We have two songs from Josh Blakesley Band in the playlist too, including the first song “Revive Us” from their latest album “Even In This”.

Hope and JustinOur featured new artist this week is Hope & Justin. Hope and Justin have been playing music together since the first night they met, which was over 10 years ago now, but they are still at it and are joined by what they say are “incredibly talented friends”. They describe their music as homegrown music with lots of soul: everything you loved about 70’s folk and bluegrass with a modern vibe. In 2013 they released their second album titled “Eastern Bound”, and they’ve been rewarded for their hard work and talent, having been selected as “New Folk Finalists” in the Texas Kerrville Folk Festival, semi-finalists in the International Songwriting Competition (chosen among 20,000 contestants), and awarded “Best Folk Song” in the West Coast Songwriter’s Competition. Hope & Justin are making their Catholic Playlist debut with “St Michael’s VW” from their latest album “Eastern Bound”.

And making a return to our blog posts here for each show, here are links in iTunes of all the songs in this week’s playlist.

#80 Catholic Playlist Show

Catholic Playlist #80We’ve got new music this week from Matt Maher, Dave Moore and Cody Roth, plus Dante Schmitz is our new featured artist this week on the Catholic Playlist show.

Welcome to the Catholic Playlist where we share the joy of the Gospel by playing the best and some of the very newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists. We’re so pleased to be able to share this new playlist of songs with you this week which includes a new selection from Matt Maher’s new album ‘Saints and Sinners’, a new song from Dee Simone’s debut EP ‘Lovesick’, and our new artist Dante Schmitz; plus songs from performers like Andrea Thomas, Shaun Garrison, Josh Blakesley Band, Dave Moore and Greg&Lizzy.

Dante SchmitzAs for our featured new artist this week, Dante began his music ministry in middle school and high school, when he attended Saint Joseph’s parish in Norman and sang in a band that headlined youth rallies and retreats around the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Dante attributes his talent and love of music as a clear sign that this is what God wants him to do. In fact, performing Christian music has become more than just a form of spiritual expression for Dante; it has become a way of sharing and growing spiritually with people from all walks of life. Something he consistently hears from listeners after performing is, “I don’t like Christian music, but I really enjoy what you’re doing.” For Dante this is the greatest affirmation of success. And with God’s grace, his music will continue to be a light for those in darkness and bridge the gap between spiritual and secular listeners. For his Catholic Playlist debut we play the title track from his latest album ‘Brighter Than The Sun.”

Finally, here is the iTunes playlist of all the songs in show #80:

Now that we’ve been doing this show for nearly 2 years, we have built up a nice sized library of music that keeps expanding every week as new artists come along (Matt Faley, Teresa Peterson, Shaun Garrison, Dave Moore) and new albums are released (Greg & Lizzy, Mikey Needleman, and Matt Maher on 3/17). So we packed the playlist tight this week chock full of great music and a couple of new songs. Included in Playlist #76 are Alverlis, Katy Blythe, Tori Harris, Ike Ndolo, Greg & Lizzy, Matt Faley, Josh Blakesley and others. And be sure to check out the first track from Kevin Heider called St Brigid’s Fire. Even though it’s written about St Brigid, it makes for a great Irish drinking song fit of St Patrick’s day. Enjoy!

Most Popular Show So Far

Catholic Playlist MusicWe don’t have a new show for you this week, but we thought we’d let you know which past episode has proven to be the most popular. It turns out that episode #55, released on September 19, 2014, is our most popular show to date based on the number of podcast plays.

And it is by far the most played episode to date.

So let’s take a closer look at episode #55. The new featured artist that week was Emily Wilson and her song ‘Beautiful and Yours’, along with songs from Chris Bray, Katy Blythe, Out of Darkness, Sarah Hart and Steve Angrisano. But it might be the set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania that sets this episode apart. Up first was Kara Klein, then Greg&Lizzy, followed by Audrey Assad and then wrapping up with Matt Maher. That’s a great lineup, and it made for a great show:
