It's All About Mercy

You already know this is a Jubilee Year of Mercy, so we thought it would be fun to put together a playlist of songs with ‘mercy’ in the title or with a mercy theme, so this week our playlist is all about mercy. Featured is PJ Anderson with 3 selections from his new album aptly titled “Mercy, Mercy”, as well as John Finch, Tori Harris, The Thirsting, and Pontifex with the acoustic version of “No Mercy”, which is a bonus track on his album “The Invicibles”.

Next week our show will feature music from artists performing at World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow, Poland, and Dan Francis makes his debut on the Catholic Playlist as our New Featured Artist.

We have some new music in our Worship playlist this week for you to enjoy. First, it’s “Gloria Laus”, another selection from ‘The Letters’ Movie Soundtrack, and Annie Karto offers up “Refuge For You” for those suffering from the tragedy in Nice and everywhere around the world. Hear New Music from Ben Walther, Alob & Emily Wilson

Discovery of new music and artists is a key part of what the Catholic Playlist show is all about. Missing a show means you’ll fall behind in discovering great new Christian music that you can share with friends and family. Sometimes all it takes is one song to help someone dig deeper in their faith, or awaken a dormant faith, or just give a little inspiration and encouragement in their day.

This week we’re pleased to have new music and a new artist in the Catholic Playlist. First, Ben Walther released his second album titled ‘Ablaze’, a 5 song collection that exhorts us to become a light in the darkness. In fact the title track, which leads off the second segment of the show, does just that with this refrain:

“Let’s set the world on fire, let’s raise his banner higher.”

alobFollowing that debut we have a new single to share from Andrew Laubacher (a.k.a ALOB) and Emily Wilson titled “Mercy Wins”. Alob is new to the Catholic Playlist but not new to the Catholic music scene as he’s collaborated and worked with many Catholic artists like Connor Flanagan, Katy Blythe, Francis Cabildo, and now Emily Wilson. “Mercy Wins” was written by Emily and Andrew and they “hope this song inspires all to love God more and accept the Mercy that is so freely given to us – His mercy that conquers all.”

Back with a Mix of Old and New

We’re back after an unscheduled 3 week hiatus and so happy to be picking some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists for playlist #130! This week’s edition has a mix of songs that are new and old – and my ‘old’ we mean stuff that’s more than a year or two old. For example of the new, we have new singles from Sarah Kroger and Andrea Thomas and newer songs by Josh Blakesley and FOCUS Worship. And for the old we have ‘classics’ from Connor Flanagan, Ike Ndolo, Marie Miller and New Name. All together this playlist of 13 songs offers a nice variety music to please almost any listener. Catholic Playlist #128The Catholic Playlist is expanding! This week the show welcomes the listeners of Catholic Community Radio to the Catholic Playlist. The Catholic Playlist Show can now be heard Saturday afternoons on 690AM WQNO New Orleans and 1380AM WPYR Baton Rouge in Louisiana. We are so happy to have y’all on board! These 2 new stations raises the total to 25 radio stations across the US playing the show.

It's Mary's Month!

Catholic Playlist #126Like I said in last week’s post for Catholic Playlist Worship #55, the month of May is one of my favorite months. First, it means the season of spring is now getting into full swing (finally) here in Ohio, the end of the school year is now just days away, it’s my birthday month and last but certainly not least, it’s the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother! To mark this occasion, I’ve put together a special playlist this week featuring 8 songs about Mary. I couldn’t quite fill the entire playlist with Marian songs, but I think you’ll still enjoy the distinct theme of the playlist.

Three New Songs Make Their Debut

Catholic Playlist 125At the end of nearly every show, I exhort the listeners to sign up to our email list to “get the latest news and happenings in the Catholic music scene.” I’m betting a heavy amount that prior to this show’s existence, virtually no one ever considered the “Catholic music scene” to be a real thing. After all, this phrase implies (1) there are enough people making great music, and (2) there are enough people interested in their music to form a reasonably sized fan base. Right now, this radio show & podcast is doing all it can to attract and grow a fan base for the music. Thank you to every one who listens to this show and has become a fan of this music!

New albums are coming soon from PJ Anderson, Marie Miller, Connor Flanagan and Lee Roessler. Rebecca Roubion just released her newest album “Sleepless Nights”, John Finch has a new single out with Rita West, and the Vigil Project just released the last song in their series of songs for Lent and Easter. And I’m sure there are many more projects in the works too. It’s a good time to be a fan of the Catholic Playlist!

The Light - Extraordinary Mission MusicAnd we’re pleased to debut a single from a new album titled “The Light” from Rachel Ann & Cassandra Acree. The duo was formerly known as SimplyRC, but now they unite for a new EP of music featured in Extraordinary Mission events led by Dr John Wood. The single is titled “Fill Up My Darkenss” and Cassandra offers us some insight into what inspired her to write this song.
