Catholic Playlist #171

A mix of new and old music can be found in our playlist for episode 20 of season 4 of the Catholic Playlist Show.

Some of the old (can anything really be called ‘old’ yet in Catholic contemporary music?) include 2 songs from Katy Blythe, one that’s very familiar in “New & Free”, and the other a surprisingly good song that deserves air time in “Curls.” Other older songs come from Aly Aleigha, Emily Wilson and Fr Kevin McGoldrick. New music includes Rita West’s “Chosen”, Brother Isaiah’s “Jacob’s Song” and “Arrow” from LEVV.

And finally, Teresa Peterson reminds us that old or new, when we’re in Christ, “He Makes All Things New.”

Dante Schmitz Of The HillsHeadlining this week’s episode of the Catholic Playlist is Dante Schmitz and the release of his new album “Of The Hills”. Available in June 2017, “Of The Hills” is an 8 song EP of original music and arrangements that current fans of his music will thoroughly enjoy. This well produced and great sounding album gave us several songs to choose from, including “Our Father”, “Come as You Are” and “Miracles”. But after much debate we picked “Victory” to debut in the playlist. Learn more about Dante and his music at danteschmitz.com, and check out his video productions at Novena Films too.

Returning this week is Matt Maher with his new single “Your Love Defends Me”, as does John Finch with “Walk by Faith.” Connor Flanagan teams with a boyhood idol of his in Shonlock to bring us “Waterfall”, and Jackie Bissin covers Hillsong United’s “Oceans” too. Other performers in episode #170 include Marie Miller, Mathias Michael, Taylor Tripodi, Of The Tower, and Tori Harris with her debut hit all the way back in 2013, “Face to Face.”

A new single from Matt Maher headlines this episode of the Catholic Playlist Show. “Your Love Defends Me” is the latest from Matt Maher and we’re pleased to put it up first in the playlist. That’s followed by more new music – a single from John Finch titled “Walk by Faith” and “Thrive” from Dave More. “Thrive” comes from an album released by Dave in January 2017 that we just stumbled across this week.

This week’s episode of the Catholic Playlist Show continues our recent run of new artists and music making their debuts in the show. Last week was Brother Isaiah in episode #166, Daniel Rolf in episode #164, and sandwiched between was the new album release of Marie Miller in episode #165. This week it’s Rita West joining the Catholic Playlist in epsiode #167 as our new featured artist.

Rita West - ChosenIf you’ve listened to the show for a while you’ve heard her singing before. In April 2016 Rita and John Finch co-wrote and recorded “Heart of Mercy”, a single we’ve played many times over the last year and now Rita has released her own album Chosen, an EP with six original songs. We’ll debut “Victor”, the first track from EP, in the playlist.

Michael James Mette released a new full length album a couple week ago titled “Between the Lines” and you’ll hear his song “Higher” later on in the playlist. Other great songs can be heard from Brother Isaiah, Marie Miller, Matt Faley, John Finch, WAL, Dana Catherine, and others.

Hear Debuts of His Own and Brother Isaiah

Discovering great new music and artists has been part of our mission here the Catholic Playlist for nearly 4 years. The list of discoveries keeps growing this week as we have two performers in our playlist – His Own and Brother Isaiah.

His Own Separate Us SingleThe trio of Kara Klein, Maria Spears and Christine Simpson make up the new group called His Own. These three ladies have come together to “combine their love for Jesus, passion for music and desire to proclaim the joy of the feminine heart.” Learn more about them and what they’re doing in their ministry at their website – www.behisown.com. Their first album was just released and we play a single they put out earlier this year – “Nothing Can Separate Us”.

Brother Isaiah BroomstickBrother Isaiah is a Franciscan Friar of the Renewal who released an EP titled “Broomstick” last year. We just came across his music and we’re pleased to share “Jacob’s Song” from that EP. A portion of all the proceeds from the sale of his music go to help mothers in need of assistance – so us these links to Amazon and iTunes to buy his music to ensure they get full credit. And this page features a video of the song produced by Spirit Juice Studios, who do amazing work.

It’s the power of some of the best and newest contemporary Christian music from Catholic artists that let’s the joy of the Gospel reach every listener’s ears! We have a great playlist assembled again for you this week. Our new featured artist from last week, Daniel Rolf, returns with another song from his EP “Turn to Mercy”, along with Chris Bray, Mathias Michael, Shaun Garrison, Tori Harris and others.

Marie Miller LetterboxWe also debut a song from Marie Miller’s new album! “Letterbox” is a 12 song album that is terrific from top to bottom, starting with “This Side of Paradise”, a song we’ve been featuring on our playlists since its release as a single. While the album is a pop album and not a Christian music album, it does tackle some important Christian themes and truths that we want to share. The bottom line is her music is just too good not to play! We lead off the playlist with “Two to One”, song about the truth of marriage.

It’s the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother and to mark the occasion we’ve put together a special playlist this week featuring music about Mary. The songs about Mary come from Connor Flanagan, Danielle Rose, Kevin Heider, Jesse Manibusan, Fr Kevin McGoldrick, The Thirsting, Matt Faley and Daniel Rolf, a new artist to the playlist.
