Crowdfunding: RoCa

Another Catholic artist crowdfunding opportunity needs your help! The RoCa Band has posted a Kickstarter project to raise the funds needed to record and produce their first full length album.

According to their profile on Kickstarter, “RoCa started in the first days of Nico Cabrera’s and James Roman’s days at college together. Nico was playing piano in the lobby of their dorm room, James asked to join, and Nico said yes. The rest is history. They are two guys who love good music, philosophy, happiness, and sharing their story with those in need. They have seen darkness and tasted pain, but they’ve also seen the sweetest light in the universe.”

We’ve played music from their EP many times on the Catholic Playlist show and we look forward to checking out their first full length album. But that will only be possible if you pledge your support before the deadline of Nov 22, 2014!

New Article on CatholicMom.com

CatholicMomWhat a pleasant surprise for a Friday morning! Allison Gingras, writer and contributor to CatholicMom.com, published a nice article today about the Catholic Playlist show and the new elements we’ve added to the roster – Song of the Week and Catholic Playlist Worship. It’s true that all of this show production is in my spare, extra time (is there such a thing?). I don’t count it as loss though (except for sleep) because I love doing it but most importantly it helps the many talented artists out there who make great music that deserves to be heard!

Stay tuned to the show and be on the lookout for more fun things on the horizon…

Song of the Week – October 20, 2014

Sarah Hart Catholic Singer

Our song for the week of October 20th 2014 is “Praying With A Broken Heart” from Sarah Hart. This song is from Sarah’s most recently released album titled Above Earth’s Lamentation, her eighth as a solo artist. She not only records her own music, but also writes songs that have been most recently recorded by Amy Grant, Celtic Woman, Matt Maher, Jason Crabb and The Newsboys. Amy Grant’s recording of “Better Than a Hallelujah” (for 2010’s Somewhere Down the Road) earned Hart a Best Gospel Song Grammy nomination. Her songs appear in hymnals all across the world, and in October of 2013, Sarah was invited to perform for Pope Francis and a crowd of 150,000 in St. Peter’s Square. I’d say it was about time that a Sarah Hart song was named Catholic Playlist Song of the Week!

Song of the Week – October 13, 2014

Marie Miller Song of the Week

Welcome to the Catholic Playlist Song of the Week! Our song for the week of October 13, 2014 is 6’2” from Marie Miller. Marie grew up in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia, the third of ten children, and began singing at the age of seven. Later she joined her family band, playing festivals and churches, where she played mandolin, guitar, and eventually bouzouki. Marie also began writing songs, which changed her life, allowing her to turn her dreams and ideas into music.

Marie’s faith is a large part of who she is, and in 2010, she went to India and spent several weeks working with Blessed Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta. In her song “6-2” Miller writes about praying for the man of her dreams, the someone she’s never seen. It has a great message of love, about the other, who God has chosen for us. And it’s our Catholic Playlist Song of the Week!

#5 – Catholic Playlist Worship

Catholic Playlist Worship

Playing the best and some of the newest sacred and traditional Catholic music available for your listening enjoyment is all a part of sharing the joy of the Gospel through the power of music. The playlist this week features Kitty Cleveland, Friar Alessandro, Andrea Bocelli, Collin Raye, and Jackie Evancho – who by the way just released a new album a few weeks ago. I didn’t realize that when I came across her music while browsing the gift shop at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama. I figured if Mother Angelica would sell her music then it’s been approved for this show!

We start off the playlist with “Dormi Jesu” from Jackie Evancho and her new album called “Awakenings”, followed by “The Lord’s Prayer” from Andrea Bocelli and “Make Me A Channel of Your Peace” from Friar Alessandro. Later on we start our last segment with “Ubi Caritas” from the brand new album titled “Ineffable” released just last week by Simonetta & Fourever. We hope you enjoy this week’s playlist!
