Join Us At AbbeyFest!

We’re very excited to announce that the Catholic Playlist will be an information vendor at the AbbeyFest this year!

In just three short years, AbbeyFest has grown from a free concert in the St. Norbert Parish gym into a full day outdoor Catholic faith, music and family festival with close to 3,000 people this past September 2015.

Held at Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, PA, the grounds are transformed into a festival atmosphere featuring dozens of Catholic vendors along with food trucks, family and kid-friendly activities, pickup Frisbee, soccer and touch football games and dozens of Archdiocesan, Norbertine, and other order priests hearing confessions throughout the day and evening along with prayer and healing teams.

We’ll be there to meet and greet all of the fans attending the event and also capture photos and videos of the performances of Aly Aleigha, Teresa Peterson and the Josh Blakesley Band!

New Featured Artist: Corrie Marie

Debut Album Coming in 2018

In Catholic Playlist Show #188 we’re pleased to introduce you to Corrie Marie, our new featured artist. We found out about Corrie Marie recently as her PledgeMusic campaign was winding down for her debut album. After making a pledge towards the project we were able to sample one of her songs, “Humble Host”, and we knew we had to share this talented artist with you.

The bio from her website www.corriemariemusic.com says Corrie “is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up singing whenever the mood struck and began writing her own songs at 12 years old. She actively started pursuing her music career at 23 when she set aside her day job to lead worship and a couple of years later she wears a few hats as a singer/songwriter, worship leader, and personal trainer. In all these things she finds that the Lord is always teaching her about her own humanity and how to see herself in other people. When writing, elements of the human experience are broken open and it’s in the music that she is able to learn more about God and more about herself.”

“Corrie has lead worship for her parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City, Md for the past 3 years and she travels to retreats and conferences to speak and lead worship and has sung for the National ChristLife Conference for the past two years. After winning the David Initiative, a contest by Catholic Creatives, Corrie was the opening act for AbbeyFest in 2017.”

And now, she’s set to release her debut album soon, and we were lucky to get a early peek at one of those songs and it’s perfect for our playlist. Be sure to check out “Humble Host” in the second segment of Catholic Playlist Show #188!

Matt Maher You Love Defends MeEight-time GRAMMY® nominated artist Matt Maher released a new single, “Your Love Defends Me” in June 2017. We debuted it in our show last week and we’re pleased to share the official lyric video. The performance video will be released soon and we’ll post it when it becomes available.

To give you some insight and the inspiration for the song, Matt had this to share:

“This song comes out of Psalm 91, and the idea of God being not a refuge, but our ONLY refuge. I think we can all relate to moments in our lives where who we were (or who we’ll become) comes crashing to the forefront of who we are, and all of a sudden there’s this fight happening inside for who gets control – the past or the future or the present moment now. When you combine that with a social media context that is always recording and documenting everything, it lives on in perpetuity either as an accusation or as a testimony. To put it simply – evil is in the business of accusation but God is in the business of raising up testimony – of who He is and what He’s done. This song talks about how God is a defender. How the love of God is not just a defense, but it’s really the only defense we have that can stand against the inconsistency of ourselves. God is your defense and what He says about you is what matters. That’s what stays.”

You can catch Matt in concert in August at “An Evening with Matt Maher & Audrey Assad” in Fresno, CA and headlines the AbbeyFest on September 16 in Paoli, PA.

Most Popular Show So Far

Catholic Playlist MusicWe don’t have a new show for you this week, but we thought we’d let you know which past episode has proven to be the most popular. It turns out that episode #55, released on September 19, 2014, is our most popular show to date based on the number of podcast plays.

And it is by far the most played episode to date.

So let’s take a closer look at episode #55. The new featured artist that week was Emily Wilson and her song ‘Beautiful and Yours’, along with songs from Chris Bray, Katy Blythe, Out of Darkness, Sarah Hart and Steve Angrisano. But it might be the set of songs from the performers at the Abbey Faith and Music Festival at Daylesford Abbey in Pennsylvania that sets this episode apart. Up first was Kara Klein, then Greg&Lizzy, followed by Audrey Assad and then wrapping up with Matt Maher. That’s a great lineup, and it made for a great show:
